ARRDEC’s WASH program promotes Water Sanitation & Hygiene and Environmental Sanitation targeting the rural population. Through this program, ARRDEC advocates against open defecation and facilitates the provision of adequate basic amenities such as toilets and portable water to communities that need them.
ARRDEC adopts education, sensitization, Advocacy, community mobilization, and dialogue/negotiation as strategies. Our WASH program provides education and sensitization on basic sanitation and hygiene practice, donation of handwashing items such as water drums, hand basins, and bars of soap, etc. We demonstrate and encourage a collective approach to understanding the impact of handwashing on individual members of the community. One thousand five hundred and sixty (1,560) school children majorly girls have been impacted by our WASH programs. On 28th May 2019, ARRDEC carried out WASH program at Government Secondary School, Zhidu, Federal Capital Territory and 60 (50girls, 10boys) schools children were impacted. In 2014, one thousand five hundred (1,500) pupils across five primary schools benefited from the ARRDEC WASH program in FCT and over 10 Health Clubs were established in these schools visited.
